this didn't get finished in time, so i'm posting the work in progress.
the skull came up first - that was in september. i've been working on this one on and off for some days since then. (micron 01,03,08; tombow n15)

the theme is obviously the "day of the dead" with the skulls, tagetes, altars etc. but there's more symbolism in this. i think integrating death into everyday life is in accordance with buddistic teachings, so i included some dorje/vajra and figurines. you maybe see a butterfly as well.

dia de los muertos tattoos and other art have been an inspiration, but especially the skull has no referance image.

i have been listening to lots of esoteric clips from youtube while i worked on this. first, it was coincidence. but then it felt like that stuff had a positive influence on my drawing, so i became a little superstitious and listened to those clips everytime i worked on the picture!
i had to laugh pretty hard every now and then, but it still seemed to help...

a quick marker drawing i made for a present (a pavement/malkmus-sampler) to one of my dearest friends. he's so picky and honest, i'm sure he will neither like the drawing nor the sampler! last time i made a sampler for him he said "i don't think i'll listen to it twice".
i think his reactions are terribly funny.
did i admit he doesn't like pasta?

my husband and i were walking through düsseldorf, just collecting urban impressions and sipping our aloe drinks that we bought at one of the japanese supermarkets. suddenly, i stood in front of a poster.

"look!"

- "has it been left from january?"

"look at the date!"

-"oh!"

it read "an evening with.." july 15th, savoy theater düsseldorf. we got really nervous and decided to walk to the theartre and see if we could still get some tickets. when we arrived, we realised that it was near our hotel, just on the other side of the street!

we finally got our tickets. some days later, i found out about the date in nijmegen at the doornroosje and decided that i really wanted to go there as well. with a few bucks left on my account, i bought two tickets and surprised stefan with them, just on monday morning. he took me to the eifel, where he's working at the moment and in the afternoon we drove to nijmegen. (all in all, we drove 5 1/2 hours that day..)

the location is so small and pretty, i loved being there. the atmosphere was average (the show at the paradiso must have been great), i think, but i didn't care because i was just so very happy to see them play again!

we went first row (i can't see anything if i stand somewhere else.. i'm small). duke garwood was as great as the last time we saw him opening at the patronaat. we enjoyed his playing style, his voice, his lyrics and his presence!

to everyone i saw on the internet bitching about duke garwood: you're all fucking morons! basta.

it was a very cool thing to hear/see how jimmy gneco took over the room. people were still talking and maybe thinking the guy coming on stage with the guitar is just sound-checking. but then he started to play and after a short while, all eyes were on him and nobody was talking anymore!

greg, mark and dave were great as usual and we had a very good time. seeing them surely is and has been one of the few highlights in our lives lately, really. the vibe was less "festive" compared to january. what i liked about that was that nobody cared if you sang along loudly. (at the patronaat show, i felt like i could get stabbed any minute by someone next to me if i continue singing! no joke!)

the set was great. stefan and i didn't have the chance to see the twilight singers/afghan whigs/mark lanegan/screaming trees live ever, so we're maybe not as "jaded" as other concert goers. i heard "martin eden" live, how cool is that? and "sworn and broken". and..

"i need some light!

-"yeah, i wanna see you!"

"i wanna see the fucking keyboard!"

i'm so happy that we'll be going again tonight. i enjoy the intimate small locations very much, but since i got that on monday, i'm looking forward to the theatre setting as well.

an illustration of mine is printed in the current manufactum catalogue. my name doesn't get mentioned anywhere there, so i'm at least making this little post...

this telephone is one of the components of the illustration and shows the style it has been done in. in the pic, it's standing on a table and is app. three times smaller!

An Evening With Greg Dulli & Mark Lanegan - Posters

we've already stated that we love music, right?
stefan and I will be going to the An Evening With... show at the patronaat in haarlem on the 22nd and since we haven't seen any official posters to decorate our walls with yet, we made some our own. (of course we're not making any profit of them!) one for the show in haarlem, one for the show in brussels and one general tour poster.
I think they turned out pretty cool! they were fun to do, that's most important. we got some copies printed and will probably put some of them up here and in haarlem. maybe you come across one of them..?
the flickr-album versions are in a good resolution, so you can download them. enjoy!

wohoo, our new blog. finally... i think we intended to create one in 2003. but time is relative, right?
somehow it didn't seem necessary in the past.
let's put it this way - thanks to the "changes" and "new conditions" in german design business, we have the "opportunity" to search for new ways of communication. ;)

we're german, but this blog will be in english for the most part - for international accesibility.

you'll probably see lot's of music related artwork here since music is one of the most influential sources of inspiration to us and plays a big role in our lives in general.

like many other artists today, we'd like to use flickr etc to host our portfolio. we have already uploaded a good portion of our stuff to our flickr album (there are some pics of us as well, in case you want to stalk us ;) ), deviantart etc will follow soon.
